What is the Free and Reduced Lunch Program?
The National School Lunch Program supports student nutrition in schools. It provides free and reduced priced meals to children of low-income families before school, during school, after school, and over the summer.
You should know...
- If you are eligible for unemployment compensation, your family might also be eligible for free or reduced price school meals.
- You may apply at any time during the school year
What's included in the Free and Reduced Lunch Program?
Milk for preschoolers and kindergartners, meals for grades 1-8. Only breakfast and lunch qualify for free/reduced status, snacks do not qualify. Juice or milk for grades 1-8 do not qualify if purchased separately from a meal.
When can I apply to the Free and Reduced Lunch Program?
Parents should complete an application before October 15 of each school year. If a family experiences a change in financial circumstances, then a parent can apply anytime during the school year.
Who will know if I apply or get enrolled in the program?
Applications and enrollments are kept strictly confidential. Families are notified of their status by mail.
